Give your Metabolism that Much Need Boost
By Kat Sanders
If you know someone who somehow seems to eat all they want, hardly exercise, and never gain a single pound, you’ve just seen a demonstration of how metabolism works. These people are blessed with a high metabolic rate, which means they burn up all they eat leaving little behind to be stored as unsightly fat deposits around your waist and on your thighs. A low metabolic rate can also leave you feeling constantly tired and exhausted. While each of us has different metabolism levels, there are ways in which we can work on boosting our body’s capacity to burn food:
- Begin with Breakfast: The best way to lift your metabolism levels is to eat a healthy breakfast, no matter how busy you are or how pressed for time you may be. Filling up in the morning is important as your body has not had food for at least 8 hours. If you don’t eat, your body is going to hold on to its fat reserves not knowing when you’re going to refuel next.
- Muscle Magic: Work with weights to build and tone your muscles. An improved muscle mass helps boost your metabolism and burn more calories.
- Water Wizardry: The more water you drink, the better your chances of utilizing your metabolism to its maximum potential.
- Exercise Enough: Besides strength training, you must adopt a cardio fitness routine that helps you burn excess fat and enhances your stamina.
- Eat Early: Don’t fill up before you go to bed. The best time to get the majority of your daily calorie requirement is the first half of the day. Divide your food into smaller, more frequent meals rather than three big meals.
- Sleep Soundly: Sleep, at least for 6 hours each night, is important for our metabolism to work as it should. A sound, undisturbed sleep helps improve your metabolism and keeps you energized all day.
- Airy Advice: Get as much fresh air and sunshine as you can during the day. Exercise in the open rather than the gym if you live in places where there’s not much pollution.
- Move More: The less of a couch potato you are, the more your metabolism levels. Instead of sitting in one position for long periods of time, take a small walk every half hour; climb stairs even if there are elevators around; walk rather than drive a few blocks.
- Happiness Helps: Laugh and be cheerful throughout the day. The happier you are, the more energetic and strong you feel.
- Relax and Rest: Get adequate rest and relaxation no matter how busy your life is. Take time to do things for yourself so that you don’t run yourself ragged looking after work and family.
